Anya Ayoung Chee is a fashion designer, entrepreneur, activist, and winner of Project Runway Season 9. In this episode of Liming with Monique, Anya shares wonderful insights about her life and family, her approach to style, her passion for social entrepreneurship, and her exciting plans for the future.
In 2008 she competed at the Miss Universe pageant in Vietnam for her native Trinidad and Tobago, during which she had the opportunity to design some of her wardrobe. In 2009 she launched her first collection Pilar, named after her younger brother. Several years later, Anya inspired millions when she won the 9th season of the popular US television series, Project Runway. She then launched her eponymous womenswear line geared toward the resort wear market.
In recent years Anya retreated from designing her own clothing line in order to open and manage a co-working space (HOME), boutique (Exhibit A) and cafe (HOME Cafe) in Trinidad. The Anya Ayoung Chee - Limited Edition brand, marks her return to designing a line of her own.

Internationally acclaimed Trinidadian soca star Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry celebrates over 30 years in the soca music industry and his rich legacy as one of soca’s top entertainers of all time continues to grow. Farmer Nappy shot to international fame when he was voted as MTV Iggy’s “Artist of the Week” in March 2012, following a weeklong voting contest that placed him against other artists around the world. His 2021 soca hit, Backyard Jam, has taken the global airwaves by storm and can be heard playing in households everywhere! Farmer Nappy earned the “Calypso of the Year” award for his blockbuster groovy soca hit “Big People Party,” from the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC) in Macoya, Trinidad, in December 2014. Farmer, as his fans affectionately know him, also placed second runner up in the International Groovy Soca Monarch and Road March competitions during the 2014 Trinidad Carnival season.
He enjoyed massive success with his first internationally-released album You Make Me…Surrender in 2012 and again in 2014 with Big People Party, then scored another classic collection with House Of Soca in 2016, all released by his own label Country Life Music, with international distribution by FOX FUSE. From his immense catalog, fan favorites include “Big People Party,” “Chippin,’” “Surrender,” “You Make Me,” “Stranger,” and “Family.” Those songs along with his hits “My House,” “In Trouble” featuring Alison Hinds, “Loosen De Chain,” “Rental” and “Bambilambambilambilambam,” continue to earn him respect from the industry and fans alike, as the voice of the groovy soca genre.

An entrepreneur, lawyer, philanthropist, mother, author and Miss Universe 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam has forged a career that spans television production, entertainment, social activism, fashion, radio broadcasting, government and law. A native of Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago, in 1998, Wendy became the third woman of color and the second Trinidadian woman to win the Miss Universe Crown, two months prior to her final examinations at law school. She was admitted to the Trinidad and Tobago Bar in 2000. Her work with government includes, Vice-President of Business Development and Investment Promotion with eTecK (a Trinidad and Tobago Industrial and Industry Development Company); the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania; and business consultant to the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Wendy served as host and co-executive producer of Caribbean’s Next Top Model (CaribeNTM), the Pan-Caribbean version of America’s Next Top model (ANTM). Wendy also connected with her fans and listeners on “The Wendy Fitzwilliam Show”, a one-hour weekly radio program that explored how – and what it means – to achieve one’s dreams. Wendy’s has also championed a variety of charitable causes. She has served as United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS, Ambassador of Youth for the Caribbean for the Red Cross and also founded The Hibiscus Foundation (THF), a children’s foundation that focuses on HIV/AIDS.When not working, Wendy engages in her most rewarding role of all: mother to her son, Ailan. Her memoir, “Letters to Ailan” was first written as an extended love letter to her son.

She began her career alongside journalism greats like Carole Simpson, Peter Jennings, David Brinkley and Sam Donaldson at ABC News Washington Bureau. Her on air career began in Jackson Mississippi and has taken her to Los Angeles, Cleveland and 2 decades in Miami.
Neki is a passionate mentor and has been mentoring for the Women of Tomorrow program for 20 years. She has also been an adjunct professor at Barry University and was recently invited to join the board of the Pace Center for Girls Broward. She is an avid reader, traveller, Girl Scout cookie mom and a budding yogi. When not trying to save the world, she is at home with her family trying to cook a meal they will all eat!
